Royals Sign Former Mets Farmhand Vega

GUELPH - The Guelph Royals Baseball Club is excited to announce the signing of starting pitcher Alfred Vega for the 2026 season.
Vega, 24, signs with the Royals fresh out of the New York Mets organization.
While with the Mets in 2025, the right-hander spent time in Low-A, High-A, and AAA, going a combined 4-2 with a 3.18 and a K/9 of 10.3.
Vega, who can throw a sinker as hard as 94 mph, also spent the 2024 season in the Mets system.
Prior to that, the Dominican Republic native spent time in the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles organizations from 2018-2023, most notably being claimed by the Orioles from the Yankees in the minor league phase of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft.
Royals assistant general manager Ryan Eakin said he is very excited to add Vega to the Royals rotation.
"It is not every day you can land an arm right out of affiliated baseball, so we are super excited to be able to do so with Alfred. He was our top priority this offseason. A lot of credit goes to our associate manager, Donny Fell, who had been keeping an eye on Alfred for a while now. We spent a lot of time doing our homework on Alfred and fully expect him to come here and be a big part of our rotation."
